RELIGIOUS SCHOOL
MISSION STATEMENT
Temple Kol Tikvah Religious School supports students in forming their Jewish identity through the teaching of Jewish heritage, culture and values, along with Hebrew, prayer and the cycles of Jewish life. The Religious School provides an opportunity for fellowship and friendship in an environment that welcomes and nurtures students and families, and encourages active participation.
Our Religious School translates our ideals and aspirations into concrete programs and activities. We at Kol Tikvah, our Director of Education, Teachers, Specialists, Rabbi, Cantor and Education Committee, are striving to help our children develop positive attitudes toward their Jewishness, to give them a sense of commitment to their tradition and to the practices of American Reform Judaism.
We have two jobs to do as Jewish educators: A) We have to teach our children to love being Jewish and being around "Jewishness". B) We have to teach our children Jewish content. If we don't do A), however, we cannot do B). Our School wants to work with your entire family. We see our task as empowering you to help your children, indeed your whole family to live more meaningful Jewish lives. We believe that positive Jewish memories and meaningful Jewish experiences are created when school and home act in partnership toward this shared goal. By working together, our school is better able to provide those experiences which will effect your childıs life. You may access the resources and experience of our faculty and staff as you continue to experience Judaism in your home. Through cooperation, family supporting school and school supporting family, we can teach our children that Jewish living is an important part of all of our lives, and that we want Jewish values to be an important part of theirs as well.
Ours is not only a school; it is a congregation and as such, we are interested in the entire family. We care about you and try to be sensitive to your needs and desires. We encourage your involvement and your feedback. We welcome your partnership in this important and holy task. .

Sheva Weissman
--- Religious School Director
Shalom, my name is Sheva Weissman and I am the
Religious School Director at Temple Kol Tikvah. Jewish education
has been my vocation and avocation for mort of my life.
Professionally, I have been a teacher, a camp counselor, a family
educator, a consultant, a religious school director and a Judaic
Studies Coordinator in a day school. The common thread running
through these positions has been the opportunity for me to share
my love and knowledge of Judaism with children of all ages and
adults of all backgrounds. Working at Kol Tikvah now gives me the
chance to bring all my experiences together.
I am a native Angelino who grew up in a traditional Jewish home. I
attended Fairfax High School and Union Hebrew High. I was
confirmed at Wilshire Blvd. Temple and went to Camp Hess Kramer
for many years. I received my bachelor’s degree from University of
California in Los Angeles, in Judaic Studies. I studied in Israel
for two years at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Then I
attended to the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York where I
received my master’s degree in education.
Recently, I changed my name from Sharene Johnson to Sheva Weissman.
My husband, Rabbi Gershon Weissman and I decided that we wanted to
strengthen our ties to our family history and our children who are
now living in Israel. As a mother, wife, grandmother and educator
my goal has been to create a warm nurturing environment where the
joy of being Jewish comes alive. It is my privilege to share my
passion for living a meaningful Jewish life with the families of
Kol Tikvah.
