March with Kol Tikvah & JQ International at the 2018 LA Pride Parade on Sunday, June 10 in West Hollywood, California. Kol Tikvah proudly announces that our Temple Member, Michaela Mendelsohn, has been named Grand Marshal of the LA Pride Parade.  We focus on unity, equality and inclusion for all, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity. About our Temple Member, Michaela Mendelsohn

Michaela Ivri Mendelsohn is a transgender activist, public speaker, and businesswoman with over forty years of entrepreneurial leadership experience. She is currently the CEO of Pollo West Corp, one of the larger franchise groups for El Pollo Loco restaurants in the Western Region of the United States and was recently chosen as the 2018 Nation’s “Face of Diversity” for the restaurant industry.

Michaela founded the TransCanWork Program whose mission is: Building a nation where transgender people can thrive in the workplace. Her personal mission is to help transwomen find employment, social acceptance and encourage them on the path to raise families of their own.

She was recently the first transgender contestant in the Ms. Senior California Pageant and worked with Jenji Kohan as a consultant on Orange is the New Black in the development of Laverne Cox’s character.

As a writer and public speaker, Michaela speaks all over the nation on LGBTQ issues to create awareness and foster change. She currently serves as vice chair of the Trevor Project whose mission is to eradicate suicide in LGBT youth. Michaela was also appointed by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti to serve on his Workforce Development Board.

She was born in New York City, and moved to Southern California as a child, where she has lived since. She was married for over thirty years and is the proud parent of three, grown children. In 2008, she legally changed her name to Michaela Irvi Mendelsohn and her gender to female. She now lives with her partner, Carmel and their four-year old son, Isadore.
