PAD - NABOR German Exchange Program
Tolerance Education Program
(Grades 9 - 12)
PAD - NABOR Germany Exchange - For several years now Temple Kol Tikvah has participated in a highly successful program in tolerance and diversity education with a group of schools in Heidelberg, Germany. This year we will again offer the opportunity to 9th through 12th graders, along with some study prior to the beginning of the exchange. This class will meet once a month throughout the school year, and culminate with the exchange program.
For the past four years, we have been fortunate to participate in this vitally important exchange program. In the spring of the year, 12 German students, who have been studying Jewish culture and history, come with a chaperone to Los Angeles to learn more about the Jewish culture. During their stay here, the students are paired up with Jewish, American students, and actually live in the homes of their Jewish 'brother' and 'sisters' for two weeks. During this time, the students will go to High School in LA, attend worship services, visit the Museum of Tolerance, and many other places around the Greater Los Angeles area.
During the summer following the German students' visit, we take the same 12 American students to Heidelberg, Germany to live with their 'brothers' and 'sisters' in their families' homes.
This year, the students wishing to participate in the exchange will have to participate in a year long course of study, meeting once monthly, learning about German history, including the Holocaust, and Jewish texts focused on tolerance, diversity and understanding.
HUC - RAC Social Justice Weekend
(10th - 12th Grades)
HUC - RAC Social Action - Throughout the year there will be opportunities to participate in various social action kallot in Cincinnati, New York, Washington DC, and programs locally. We will try to have something available once a month.
Dollars and 'Sense': Putting our money where our mouth is.
Everyday we make choices about spending money, so does our government. Engage in discussion and debate about our private and public priorities. This weekend we will talk about the actions our government takes and the actions that we would like it to take. We will draw from the corpus of Jewish texts to inform our thinking on tough contemporary issues. The program will be full of spirited discussions, learning, and fun with Jewish teenagers from throughout North America.
This group will meet monthly to discuss ways teens in LA can make a difference in the lives of people in need.
The Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism
(9th - 12th Grades)
Bernard and Audre Rapoport
L'Taken Teen Social Justice Seminars 2006-07
A program of the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism
L'taken olam b'malchut Shaddai
To repair the world under the realm of the Eternal
The L'Taken Seminar is an intensive four-day teen kallah in Washington, DC, focused on Jewish values and social justice.
Every year, nearly 1,500 high school-aged students participate in this exciting event. Each weekend brings together students from around the country to explore public policy and social activism through a Jewish lens. This unique Washington opportunity lets students hear from experts from both inside and outside of the Jewish community. Every L'Taken Seminar covers several different issue areas in a variety of interactive formats. Each seminar includes an opportunity to tour the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum and Havdalah services at one of the Memorials. Students also sample the vibrancy of Georgetown and other exciting areas of Washington.
